An Authority Client Launches Into Canada

Wednesday, Aug 1, 2007

Authority client, Safe Foods Corp. of North Little Rock, announced this week that it had received a letter of no objection from Health Canada to initiate treatment of Canadian poultry products with its Cecure safe food technology. The process will be implemented in processing facilities that employ air-chilling.Air-chilling, the process by which poultry broilers are chilled with a refrigerated air blast in chill rooms, is used after slaughter to slow the development of pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms. Immersion chilling is the process of choice in the United States.

In March of this year, Safe Foods received approval from Health Canada to enter the Canadian marketplace with its patented technology, which is an antimicrobial.

"This additional approval by Health Canada makes this premier food safety technology feasible for all Canadian poultry processors," Safe Food's CEO Curtis Coleman said in a company news release. This new approval marks a turning point in the relationship between Safe Foods and Canadian poultry processors who have been eagerly waiting for the availability of Cecure in Canada for several years.

In 2004, Safe Foods jumped into the national spotlight by being featured on the CBS Evening News following the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture approval of Cecure as a processing aid for the control of pathogens on raw poultry products in the U.S. Since then, the company has obtained registration for Cecure in Russia and South Africa, as well.
