Ahlen Updates The Legislature on Arkansas' Economic Growth and Competitive Future

Dr. John Ahlen, President of the Arkansas Science & Technology Authority, made a presentation to the state legislature on Monday.

In a speech before the Task Force on Higher Education Remediation, Retention & Graduation Rates, Ahlen spoke on Arkansas’ need for economic growth and competitiveness.

During the presentation Dr. Ahlen outlined keys to establishing and maintaining a strong Knowledge-Based Economy. The building blocks of this system focus on several important areas include science education in middle schools and high schools, science, technology, and engineering degrees, research and development opportunities, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, and risk capital investments.

Ahlen pointed out that investing in these strategies, strategies that prepare science, engineering, and entrepreneurial talent to create knowledge-based jobs and raise per capita income, is the key to Arkansas’ success in the 21st Century Economy.
